The Discrimination workshop is an introduction to the fundamental principles and practices of Operant Conditioning and changing animal behavior. Topics explored include; voluntary and involuntary behaviors, operant and respondent conditioning, observation, reinforcement (Primary and secondary), discriminative stimuli, timing, criteria, rate of reinforcement, extinction, punishment, mechanical skills, choice, and changing trainer behavior. This is a 40 hour course given over 5 consecutive days and is comprised of lectures and hands-on training using Leghorn chickens as a model to explore and apply the concepts presented. This course is a pre-requisite and designed to prepare students for the higher level workshops: Cueing, Criteria and Chaining.
PREREQUISITES: Sufficient physical, mental and emotional capability to stand the rigors of the workshop.
We will be honoring past Discrimination, Cueing and Criteria courses successfully completed with Dr. Bob Bailey towards your eligibility. You must provide proof of successful completion of prior Bailey Chicken Workshops.
